Urban Tapestry at Consonance

Urban Tapestry is a filk trio from Toronto, Ontario: Allison Durno, Jodi Krangle, and Debbie Ridpath Ohi. All three write music for the group and perform at science fiction and music conventions, weddings, children's concerts, open mikes, and libraries. We have two albums available, our second on CD.

We're honoured to have received the 1997 Pegasus Award for Best Performer.

Individual short bios:

Within Urban Tapestry, Debbie Ridpath Ohi writes songs as well as playing flute, guitar, penny whistle, kazoo, Celtic harp, and an assortment of obnoxious bangy things. Debbie is a Toronto-based freelance writer, author of The Writer's Online Marketplace (Writer's Digest Books, Jan/2001), creator of Inkspot (sold to a U.S. company several years ago) and Inkygirl: A Weblog For Writers. Her other online projects include My Life In A Nutshell (comic), Market Watch (daily publishing news), and Blatherings (personal journal). She spends way too much time online, and has a weakness for sushi, office supply stores, and chocolate. Debbie is also the creator of the Waiting For Frodo comic strip, chronicling the adventures of J.R.R. Tolkien fans waiting in line to see The Lord of the Rings films by New Line Cinema, as well as a song based on the comic strip.

Allison Durno
is an elementary school teacher currently teaching Gr. 5 at St. Joseph's School in Richmond Hill. She is presently co-producing a student production of "Fiddler On The Roof" as well as running the school's public speaking competition. She plays guitar, sings and writes songs as part of Urban Tapestry. She lives in Richmond Hill with her husband, John. Her on-line LiveJournal can be found at http://www.livejournal.com/users/allisona/ .

Jodi Krangle
sings, plays a little recorder and writes songs within Urban Tapestry. She was introduced to filking via role play games and is still a fairly avid gamer. In her "day job", she's provides search engine optimization and internet marketing services promoting websites through her own company . In her copious free time (ha!), she is the creator and webmaster of a site devoted to songwriters called "The Muse's Muse Songwriting Resource", first put online in 1995. The site has won numerous awards in the almost eight years of its existence, including mentions in many popular songwriter-oriented print magazines (Acoustic Guitar, Keyboard, Billboard Magazine, The Wallstreet Journal & American Songwriter). The site has also been chosen as "Cool Site of the Day" twice. Jodi and her husband live in Newmarket, north of the GTA.
